It’s all about the sweetness and joy of Shabbat! “Sing in Shabbat” is the trademark program of Lisa Iskin, and has been tried and true over time. It is a musical service complete with a guitar (or two), that engages, uplifts, and is accessible to all. Creating a container of love and peace, Leah guides congregants through the Erev Shabbat experience, transitioning between prayers with a fresh perspective, and utilizing melodies old and new.

Leah offers a combination of Yiddish and Hebrew folk songs. Most are well-known, while some need to be brought back from obscurity. Many are steeped in significant historical context, while others are universal expressions of life’s complexities, including hardships, love, pride, and a desire for peace. Committed to preserving these gems and preventing them from becoming a lost piece of history, Leah sings the songs that she inherited from her family, and researches others that may be fading in order to keep them alive, for us now, and for future generations.

Leah is available to contribute her love of tefilah to Shabbat services, B’nai Mitzvahs, and High Holy Day services.

Saturday mornings at the shul are fun and musical as we “Daven Tsuzamen” (pray together). Leah leads many of the prayers with her guitar, elevating the emotions of the service as we sing and pray together in community, connecting spiritually and celebrating the continuity of our ancient traditions.
